AVG Technologies is a security software company headquartered in Brno, Czech Republic and Amsterdam, Netherlands, that was founded in 1991 by Jan Gritzbach and Tomáš Hofer. Since 2016 the company has been a subsidiary of Avast Software. The company developed antivirus software and internet security services such as AVG AntiVirus and has corporate offices in Europe, Israel, Brazil, Canada and the United States. As of 2 February 2015, over 200 million active users used AVG's software products and services, which include internet security, performance optimization and personal privacy and identity protection applications. In July 2016, Avast Software announced that it intends to acquire AVG. The acquisition was completed on September 30, 2016 and Avast and AVG operate as a single company since October 3, 2016, retaining the two separate brands.
