Iberostar Hotels & Resorts is a hotel chain based in Spain, specializing in over 100 4 and 5-star hotels. It is owned by Grupo Iberostar, which also owns Iberostate Golf, Villas & Condos, Iberoservice its incoming tourism division and Iberostar The Club. The company's trademark is "first line" hotels (meaning directly on the beach), surrounded by gardens. The company was founded in 1986 in Palma, Majorca, Spain by the Fluxá family. Iberostar's head office is located in Mallorca and hotels that operate under their brand name are located in the continents of Europe, North America, and Africa. Travel Trade Gazette, a U.K.-based travel industry publication, named the company "Best Hotel Chain of the Year" in 2009. On April 7, 2010, Iberostar announced that Antonio Banderas would be the new face of a global campaign to promote the company's hotels and resorts. In mid-2014, Iberostar renewed their partnership with Toni Nadal, uncle of professional tennis player Rafael Nadal, which had lasted since 2009. This deal is scheduled to continue until 2017. Toni Nadal, also from Majorca, wears an Iberostar brand hat to every tennis match he attends.
